Recommendations for the upcoming government
Montreal, QC - August 5th, 2026 — As Quebec is increasingly facing challenges related to water quality and availability, AquaAction is calling on all political parties to seize a critical opportunity ahead of the upcoming October elections to make Quebec a leader in water technology.
AquaAction and its community of over 70 water tech entrepreneurs are raising the alarm: Quebec cannot keep treating water as a limitless resource. The province has reached a tipping point where overconsumption, aging infrastructures, climate change, and pollution threaten our water health and water security.
“Quebec is overflowing with potential and ideas for projects that can help solve these issues,” said AquaAction President Soula Chronopoulos. “At this critical juncture, we must address the elephant in the room: that our water systems are in need of lasting, innovative solutions, something that can reap a profitable made-in-Quebec water technology supply chain in the process.”
Countries around the world are increasingly investing in water technologies that are able to tackle these issues. If it fails to do the same, Quebec risks falling behind and endangering its biggest source of economic, cultural and natural wealth. That's why AquaAction is recommending that the incoming Government of Quebec should focus on:
- Supporting the scaling-up of proven programs that support the development of water technologies.
- Harnessing existing financial institutions to bridge the investment gaps in the development of clean technology.
- Launching an initiative to review and amend regulations to promote environmental innovation.
- Engaging the Quebec government’s international relations to support the commercialization and export of Quebec water technologies while ensuring that their expertise remains in the province.

“AquaAction’s AquaEntrepreneur Program has proven that water innovation can contribute to economic growth. To date, the program has supported 61 Quebec companies, contributed to the creation of more than 736 pilot projects and contracts representing over $212 million in revenue, and most importantly, helped Québec companies save 350 billion liters of water. This program must be backed, but above all, it needs the opportunity to maximize its potential with the help of a government that prioritizes its precious resource,” reminds Soula Chronopoulos.
