Job Summary
As Digital Communications Lead, you shape how AquaAction connects with public audiences across North America through social and digital channels, advancing the organization’s mission to empower leaders to solve the freshwater crisis. This role blends strategic communications, storytelling, and digital content development to ensure AquaAction’s online presence is compelling and tailored to the diverse needs of audiences in Canada and the United States.
Working with the communications team, you oversee AquaAction’s social and digital media platforms, support content planning and creation, and translate complex innovation and research into accessible, human-centered narratives. In particular, this involves identifying and elevating stories of innovation from AquaAction entrepreneurs. With the support of the Director of IT and the Programs Marketing Coordinator, you will also support on the maintenance and development of AquaAction’s website through HubSpot.
Approximately one day per week, this position provides social media communications support to the de Gaspé Beaubien Foundation, ensuring consistent, high-quality content aligned with its values and priorities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Digital & Social Media Communications
- Lead the day-to-day management and strategic planning of AquaAction’s social and digital media channels.
- Develop and maintain content calendars that reflect differentiated strategies for U.S. and Canadian audiences, including region-specific messaging (e.g., Great Lakes, state-level policy, local innovation ecosystems).
- Create and optimize content for engagement and storytelling.
- Engage with online audiences, track engagement trends, and flag insights to inform future content and segmentation strategies.
- Coordinate approvals and ensure all content is accurate, accessible, and aligned with brand guidelines in both official languages.
Storytelling & Content Development
- Collaborate with the Lead Storyteller and Videographer to identify, develop, and amplify stories of innovation from AquaAction entrepreneurs, mentors, and program alumni.
- Clearly communicate how AquaAction’s programs function individually and as a connected pathway, emphasizing their cumulative impact.
- Support on the production, publication and sending of the monthly newsletter and story blogs.
- Identify opportunities for targeted outreach to high-engagement segments such as Great Lakes communities, policy audiences, innovation hubs, and U.S. colleges.
- Applying insights from public opinion research and donor motivation studies to inform communications.
- Assist with digital fundraising initiatives, including online awareness and micro-donation campaigns.
de Gaspé Beaubien Foundation Support
- Dedicate the equivalent to one day per week to supporting social media communications for the de Gaspé Beaubien Foundation.
- Plan, draft, and schedule content in coordination with foundation stakeholders, ensuring tone and messaging alignment. (expectation is two posts per week and a blog per month)
Skill Requirements
- Strong experience in digital communications and social media management.
- Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to adapt tone and format across platforms and audience segments.
- Experience creating content (posts, short videos, visuals, shareables) within an overarching communications strategy.
- Ability to translate complex topics—innovation, entrepreneurship, research—into accessible public narratives.
- Experience using CRM or digital engagement tools (e.g., HubSpot) as a communications support.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to work in both official languages.
