Today for our Humans behind AquaHacking series, we talked with our very own Kariann Aarup, Director of Partnerships and Program Development at AquaHacking! Kariann has been with us since 2017 and is in charge of creating partnerships. It is thanks to her that our program is expanding into several regions across Canada.

> A word or an expression that defines you well?
Always seeing the positive side of a situation
> What turns you on most in your job (in general)?
Turning an idea into reality and establishing mutually nourishing relationships along the way
> Why do you think we should care about what AquaHacking does?
We need to inspire young people to believe they can make a positive difference in the world and to act on that belief
> What is your favorite lake or river?
The two lakes in the Laurentians, QC where I spent my childhood
> For you what is a healthy lake or river?
It is nourishing for the human soul and a source of life within an eco-system
> When you are not working, what do you like to do? (Aka What is your favorite hobby?)
yoga, cooking, gardening
> What is the best advice you have received?
Pay attention and listen to my inner voice
> The person who inspires you the most?
My children, Kai and Miah
> What are your pro-environmental gestures or efforts or resolutions?
We have a fully electric vehicle; I purchase local, organic produce and meat; I continuously strive for mindfulness & compassion
> What is your best memory of AquaHacking?
Securing OBWB as our partner in BC and bringing the regional programming idea to life
> What social media do you use the most?
The sidewalk when I chat with parents before and after the school bus
