Carolina Restrepo brilliantly coordinates the AquaHacking Challenge in British Columbia as part of the Okanagan Basin Water Board. We love her passion, dedication, and efficiency. Driven by results and always positive, we are very happy to work with Carolina as her expertise and organizational skills make the challenge a unique competition for participants and the community around AquaHacking in British Columbia.

Meet Carolina through those few questions…

What is your professional background?

I have worked for almost 7 years at the University of British Columbia in Kelowna, as the Coordinator for the Okanagan Institute for Biodiversity Resilience and Ecosystems Services, as this is a part-time position, I have continued working with the Institute while involved in AquaHacking.

What do you like the most about your job (in general)?

Reaching the goals we define, effective teamwork.

A word or an expression that defines you well?

Perseverance.

Why do you think we should care about what AquaHacking is doing?

Because water is one the most important resources and we need to be mindful, creative and protective about such an important resource.

What is your favorite lake or river?

In Canada, Kalamalka Lake (Okanagan Region). In Colombia where I am originally from “Caño Cristales”.

For you, what is a healthy lake or river?

A one that is able to effectively function as an ecosystem service.

When you are not working, what do you like to do?

I love biking and dancing Colombian Folkloric music.

What is the best advice you have received?

Life is so short, enjoy everything you do! Tell your loved ones very often how much you love them!

The person who inspires you the most?

My mom. She is my rock and my inspiration in everything I do!

What are your pro-environmental gestures or efforts or resolutions?

Mindful water use: xeriscape garden in my house, no plastic bottle water use. Carpooling as much as possible, bike to work when possible, mindful consumption of animal protein, etc…

What is your best memory of AquaHacking?

Meeting everybody at the final in Montreal in 2019.
