AquaAction is a national non-profit organization established by the de Gaspé Beaubien Foundation. Since 2015, AquaAction has delivered its flagship program, the AquaHacking Challenge. In recent years, the organization has expanded to also offer the AquaHacking Alumni and AquaEntrepreneur programs. AquaAction engages the next generation of innovators to develop technological solutions to help restore freshwater health in North America.

Job Summary

The Database Analyst Intern will assist with the compilation and review of impact metrics data as they relate to both AquaAction program areas as well as AquaHacking Alumni enterprise activities. The intern will play a key role in the design of a database dashboard used to track, summarize, and present impact metrics. Following the design and development phase of the dashboard, the intern will be responsible for populating the database and conducting quality-assessment and quality-checking of submitted data. The Database Analyst Intern will also be responsible for training users on how to use the database and dashboard. They will assist with the research and writing of an article describing the power of impact metric measurement and communication, and the types of technological tools that can be used to do so.

As part of their duties, the Database Analyst, among other things, will be responsible for:

  • Conducting research on impact metric data tracking methods and reporting systems to inform the design and development of a new database and dashboard
  • Working alongside partners in the creation of the database and dashboard
  • Troubleshooting the database input fields and reporting features
  • Leading one-on-one training sessions with AquaHacking alumni members to train them on how to use the database, dashboard, and report generation features
  • Conducting research and writing about impact metric measurement and reporting in the mission-driven water tech start-up sector

Requirements 

  • Bilingual in English and French
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and French
  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Science, Sociology, Psychology, Business Development and Administration, or other relevant field

  • Demonstrated experience with data management (quantitative and qualitative)
  • Demonstrated experience with data visualization (creating graphs, figures, tables)

Assets 

  • Familiarity with data dashboards
  • Have some coding experience
  • Personal interest or background in environment, technology and/or entrepreneurship
  • Experience using Microsoft Teams as a team communication tool
  • Experience using Zoom for video conference calls
  • Experience using Salesforce

Conditions

  • Ability to work remotely from home and in our office at least one day per week located at 1275 Av. des Canadiens-de-Montréal, Montréal, QC H3B 0G4
  • Access to a reliable personal laptop, good internet connection at your home, reliable personal cell phone
  • Full-time availability between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM EST from Monday to Friday, with a break from 12:00 to 1:00 PM EST

The candidate must be: 

  • Between 18 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment
  • A Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
  • Legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations
