Soula Chronopoulos Joins AquaAction as President

Montreal, March 8, 2023 – AquaAction is proud to announce the appointment Soula Chronopoulos, to the role of President of AquaAction.  AquaAction’s mission is to restore freshwater health and sustainability through the development of water-tech startups dedicated to solving the water-related climate crisis in North America. Soula Chronopoulos will take on a strategic leadership role focused on the growth of its programming and partnerships to propel AquaAction into its international expansion phase.

We are also delighted to share the promotion of Kariann Aarup, AquaAction’s former Executive Director, to the role of Vice President of Programming and Impact. A valued and respected member of the North American freshwater ecosystem, Kariann will oversee the development of strategic programs to ensure they meet our impact goals and ensure partnerships with key players in the ecosystem.

With a background in medical research, Soula Chronopoulos has over 20 years of global executive experience establishing, expanding, and leading prosperous public and private organizations worldwide, in the consumer health and digital transformation arenas. Her initial start-up venture, Taimma Communications, earned recognition as one of Canada’s Fastest Growing Companies, while Soula herself was honored as one of Canada’s Top Female Entrepreneurs by Profit Magazine. Soula holds a Master of Science degree from McGill University, and possesses an unwavering passion for entrepreneurship;  she actively participates in mentoring start-ups in the health & science sectors as an active member of the McGill Dobson Center for Entrepreneurship.

Deeply committed to sustainability and social change, Kariann Aarup holds an MBA from McGill University and has always worked at the intersection of business and social innovation.  With  20+ years working across multiple sectors, Kariann’s experience includes successfully co-founding and leading a national youth internship charity; developing a sustainability-focused experiential learning business curriculum at McGill; embedding community engagement & impact practices at operational sites with Rio Tinto in Canada, Europe and Africa.  Inspired by efforts to build a more regenerative economy, Kariann is active on the board of the Scale Institute in Victoria, British Columbia.

AquaAction is a Canadian registered charity established by the Fondation de Gaspé Beaubien in 2015, created to disrupt the status quo with innovative ideas and engage youth in the fight against the water-related climate crisis. AquaAction has developed three programs focused on water innovation and technology: the AquaHacking Challenge, AquaEntrepreneur and the AquaAction Alumni Community.
